    Artist statement

Held captures a moment suspended between protection and restraint. The figure appears supported, yet confined—hands rest on the shoulders, but their presence carries weight rather than comfort. The gaze is direct and unyielding, suggesting awareness rather than surrender.

I explore the ambiguity of being held: how closeness can both stabilize and restrict. The body is fragmented through sharp planes and layered marks, reflecting an internal tension that cannot fully resolve. Subtle red tones surface beneath muted colors, hinting at emotion that is present but contained.

This work sits in the space where connection becomes pressure—where the line between care and control begins to blur.
