Artist statement

“Fractured” explores the psychological weight of being human through a distorted and fragmented figure. The subject’s face is broken into sharp, angular planes, suggesting an internal collapse rather than a physical one. This fragmentation reflects moments of anxiety, self-doubt, and emotional exhaustion—states where identity feels unstable and disjointed.

The muted palette, interrupted by subtle reds and greens, creates a tension between life and decay, warmth and alienation. The heavy black contours reinforce a sense of confinement, as if the figure is trapped within their own mind. The gesture—head pressed into the hand—captures a quiet but intense moment of mental strain.

Rather than presenting a polished or idealized portrait, this work embraces distortion as a form of honesty. “Fractured” is not about breaking apart, but about revealing what already exists beneath the surface—an uneasy, layered self that resists simplification.
